Designcenter X NX Academic Edition follows the same Continuous Release schedule as the commercial versions of Designcenter X NX with automatic updates managed by Siemens, ensuring you always have access to the same features and functionality that engineering professionals are using—from startup to enterprise—all over the world.

Siemens Xcelerator Academy is a learning portal that offers on-demand, virtual and in-person training to support your journey in learning Siemens Xcelerator software, including Designcenter NX. Secondary and post-secondary students and educators are eligible for a free Enterprise Membership through the SheerID verification program. Learn and teach Designcenter NX with Siemens Xcelerator Academy

Learn Designcenter NX for your own training, embed courses into your curriculum or encourage students to leverage Siemens Xcelerator Academy to enhance their learning outside of the classroom.

Design

Multiple courses are available for learning Designcenter NX, with two specific learning paths that prepare you for the certification exams. By following the NX Design learning paths, you will learn basic design, product design fundamentals, molded and cast part design, loading and working with assemblies and design in the context of an assembly.

If you advance to the NX Design Professional course list, you will learn to create curves as construction geometry, NX surfacing, modeling processes, documenting with drafting, model-based definition using PMI and HD3D tools and validation.

Manufacturing

The Designcenter X NX Academic Edition also includes NX X Manufacturing features. You can use the NX Manufacturing learning path to learn basic design, managing NX programming data, machining a prismatic part, fixed and multi-axis machining and turning manufacturing.

Don't have CAD embedded in your course curriculum already? Teach engineering design with Designcenter NX by leveraging the NX Curriculum Package. The package includes a semester's worth of learning including an ebook, lab exercises and 40 online videos.

With the curriculum, you will be able to:

• Navigate the NX user interface
• Design complex, free-form shapes
• Create complete 3D models

The curriculum can also be used for additional self-paced learning for yourself or students if you already have CAD/CAM/CAE lessons in your courses.

What are Siemens Xcelerator Academy certification exams?

Certification exams are for students and educators who have completed training or have experience with our products and want to achieve certification. The exams are administered through a virtually proctored system using a remote authorization process that does not require travel to a training center.

How do I get certifications for myself or my students?

As an Academic Partner, you may purchase certification exams for yourself or offer them to students to validate knowledge, skills and expertise in using our products. Currently, the academic discounts are only available for purchase through your Siemens account rep. Free certification vouchers may be available depending on your licensing arrangement. If you do not know who your Siemens account representative is and you are a professor who uses Siemens software in your classroom, please contact academic.sisw @ siemens.com.

For the NX Design Associate exam, you and your students should follow the NX Design Associate learning path on Siemens Xcelerator Academy, which you have free access to.

Why should my students get certified?

With the NX Design Associate (ideal for academic) or NX Design Professional (not aimed for academic) certification, your students can show employers that they are knowledgeable and proficient in Designcenter NX CAD software. As employers are looking for students who fit their needs and have a digital skillset, an industry-recognized software certification on a resume helps your students to stand out. Additionally, upon passing the exam, students will receive a digital badge that they can highlight on their LinkedIn profile.

In-person events

The Siemens academic team attends many different educational and industry events each year. The Designcenter NX academic team hosts virtual events such as webinars at least twice annually for educators and their students. Annually, we offer a What's New in Designcenter NX for academics webinar in the Spring and a 4-hour Designcenter NX Student Day webinar in the Fall.

Realize LIVE Sustainability Design Hack

The Sustainability Design Hack at Realize LIVE is an annual student competition that explores sustainable design and innovation by leveraging Designcenter NX software. Students have 48 hours to develop a solution to a challenge from one of our industry customers. Past partners for this challenge have included Sony in 2025, Andretti in 2024 and KYBURZ in 2023.

Immersive Design Challenge

The Immersive Design Challenge challenged students worldwide to imagine sustainable design using Immersive Engineering. The challenge included three rounds, with the final-round teams being some of the first to experience Designcenter NX Immersive Designer and the Sony XR head-mounted display as they used Immersive Engineering to create their sustainable idea. The winning team received a headset for their school.

Immersive Engineering combines the real and digital worlds allowing you to experience 3D CAD in the Industrial Metaverse. The combination of Siemens’ Designcenter NX Immersive Designer software and Sony’s unique XR head-mounted display provides the most natural and intuitive way to create and experience the digital twin of your product or process.
