System NVH performance prediction with Simcenter

Automotive development teams need to know how the different noise and vibration sources from electrified and conventional vehicles will contribute to the overall NVH performance. They also need to deal with the increased engineering complexity across many vehicle variants while being under time and budget restrictions. But to do so, there is hardly any prototype available to test.

System NVH performance prediction is a robust solution that enables accurately predicting the interior and exterior NVH performance of any system at any stage of the development cycle. You can accurately create or assemble systems in a virtual environment using test and simulation data, easily evaluate the effect of modifications or components at different development stages and maximize the usage of all the data in the organization. The user interface is easy to use, allowing non-experts to predict the final product NVH performance accurately. Our solution allows your development team to deliver excellent NVH performance while keeping development times and costs under control.

Component models creation

System NVH performance prediction solution allows you to understand how each component of your system contributes to its NVH performance: you can create a reliable digital twin for both structural and source components. NVH experts can create these components from test and simulation data using the latest technology, such as component-based transfer path analysis (TPA). The technology allows to accurately create invariant, reduced, interchangeable, and reliable component models. The validated components with their descriptive information are saved in a structured format which allows the creation of standardized libraries of components ready to use in the new assembly. Test and simulation engineers might use their own naming convention, but thanks to the usage of component templates, this aspect is automatically covered.

System assembly

With our fast and reliable system NVH performance prediction solution, you can assemble a virtual vehicle using accurate and validated components in a modular way. As all the information is centrally managed, published component models can be shared between different parties in the organization: this ensures easy collaboration between teams so that you'll never have to work in silos anymore. Substructuring combines the source models with the frequency response function (FRF) assembled system quickly and accurately. Our solution is scalable: from a quick source transfer calculation with only a source and receiver component to full-blown models with all sources, subsystems, and the receiver body.

NVH performance evaluation

Transfer path analysis enables engineers to identify and investigate the most critical path contributions to the vibration and noise targets. It enables the update of the sub-system design targets realistically with the most efficient troubleshooting techniques. Having one central application, non-experts can create a comprehensive digital twin and accurately predict the interior & exterior system NVH performance at every stage of the development cycle. The prediction of NVH performance can be done for different applications, e.g., booming, road, pass-by noise, or for specific operational scenarios important for electrified vehicles.

Variant analysis

System NVH performance prediction solution helps to provide meaningful input to non-NVH experts, management, and control engineers to make the right design decisions as early as possible. The user-friendly interface makes the virtual vehicle accessible to everyone, allowing with one click to do modifications predictions: you can easily swap in assembly or design alternatives and immediately see the NVH performance impact before the vehicle is physically available. For example, you can evaluate the impact of modifying the structural properties of the vehicle body, the engine mounts or using different NVH sources such as a new set of tires or a different powertrain.
